Office Network Expansion
&
Redundancy Solution in London
Delivering Reliable Connectivity in Challenging Conditions
Client Overview
In August 2025, Commphere was approached by a London-based client expanding their office operations by leasing an additional building adjacent to their existing premises. The client required a robust, secure, and redundant network infrastructure to connect both buildings while maintaining full control over their network.
Challenge
The client’s work demanded complete autonomy over their network, ruling out shared infrastructure options. Building 1 was already equipped with a 1Gbps Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) line, which had sufficient capacity to support the new building. The challenge was to extend connectivity from Building 1 to Building 2 without installing a second DIA, thereby reducing costs.
Additional complications arose during the initial site visit:
-
Internal cabling routes were blocked due to unexpected building works.
-
The new building lacked sufficient network points.
-
The client requested a redundant solution to ensure minimal downtime in case of faults.
Solution
Commsphere proposed a dual-path connectivity solution:
-
Primary Connection: Fibre optic link between Building 1 and Building 2.
-
Redundant Path: 60 GHz point-to-point wireless data link.
To address the lack of internal cabling and network points, Commsphere also took on:
-
Installation of additional network points throughout the new offices.
-
Sourcing and installation of a network rack and associated components.
Implementation
-
Site Survey & Planning: After evaluating the site, Commsphere revised the original plan to route fibre externally due to blocked internal pathways. This required multiple fibre splicing points for future fault isolation and flexibility.
-
Redundancy Design: All cabling was doubled up, and multiple external junction boxes were installed to enhance fault tolerance.
-
Night Works: To avoid disruption to staff in Building 1, part of the work was scheduled during night hours.
-
Timeline: Sphere was given a deadline to complete all works by the end of September 2025, allowing a full month of testing before the client moved in during November.
Results
-
Seamless connectivity between both buildings using existing DIA bandwidth.
-
Fully redundant infrastructure with fibre and wireless backup.
-
Enhanced internal network capability in Building 2.
-
Future-proofed design with multiple splicing and junction points for easy maintenance.
-
Zero disruption to ongoing operations during installation.
Conclusion
Commsphere successfully delivered a cost-effective, resilient, and scalable network solution tailored to the client’s operational needs. The project showcased Commsphere’s adaptability, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under changing site conditions and tight deadlines.
